Producer Bo Zenga, the man responsible for the atrociously offensive Soul Plane and the original Scary Movie (which had its moments), makes his directorial debut with this whiff of foul stink. Stan Helsing can’t decide if it wants to be a straight up spoof, or if it wants to be a real, breathing legitimate movie with an actual plot. The jokes are straight up garbage (except for one truly funny gag that reveals why our hero and his beautiful girlfriend have broken up; I won’t ruin it for you). The story basically takes Hugh Jackman’s 2004 bomb Van Helsing and sticks it in present day, with our hero battling the greatest slashers in recent horror history. As a real movie, that would be awesome. Especially if it were truly Jason, Freddy, Michael, Chucky, Leatherface, and Pinhead that Stan was up against. Instead, we get goofy spoof versions of these characters. And they are all quite stupid. Still, this idea could have worked on some level. But Zenga does absolutely nothing with the concept. He just gives us a super lame road picture that hardly has an ounce of class to its name. Stan Helsing (a truly great Steve Howey; heck he saves this from being completely unwatchable) is a video store clerk and part time stoner. His Halloween mission?
